A splendid day. The weather was very mild, and not hot at all. Extraordinary performances by the front runners. This year was marked by the number of "runners" who took more than three hours to complete the course, thus making the event a fun day for the family and an all-day outing for many people. Not everyone is a top athlete. The further back in the race, the more mobile phones, iPods, headphones and cameras were in use. Full marks to the man dressed as Michael Jackson (or was it really Michael making a thrilling re-appearance). There were even fewer people running in costumes this year compared with previous years; this is certainly something the organisers could revive. It was less commercialised than in previous years too, a wonderful thing to have less visual pollution at the seaside from ghastly, irrelevant sponsors. And Sydney Buses needs to consider a second bus service via Curlewis Street or Beach Road, since everyone is heartily sick of walking halfway up the hill. In Glenayr Avenue, crowds of people waited in vain for the '389' bus services that arrived packed anyway. One sensible bus inspector showed some initiative and put on a bendy-bus for these people. Behind the scenes, the overall event is well organised and everything went off with hardly a hitch.
