Latest Stats as at 28/12/2011. ============================= These figures cover the 16-day period 16/12/2011 to 31/12/2011. It's the Christmas holidays and once again the figures represent people surfing the net away from their workplace. In previous years it's been laptops instead of desktop computers, but this year it's a huge swing to smartphones and tablets in place of larger computers. It's a glimpse of future trends. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 16th to 31st December 2011, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 30.7 (31.6, 31.8, 29.9, 32.5, 31.0, 31.7, 31.4, 30.7) XP 23.6 (29.6, 27.4, 28.0, 27.7, 30.1, 29.7, 30.5, 31.4, 31.4) Vista 8.7 (8.9, 9.4, 8.7, 9.8, 10.5, 10.2, 10.7, 10.5, 11.2) Pre-XP Windows 0.9 (1.7, 1.9, 1.7, 2.2, 1.9, 1.7, 1.6, 1.2) Mac 11.8 (11.7, 12.3, 15.4, 13.0, 12.4, 12.0, 12.1, 12.1) iPhone etc 16.7 (10.6, 11.1, 10.9, 9.3, 8.4, 9.0, 8.4, 8.2) Android 3.1 (2.0, 2.5, 2.1, 2.0, 2.1, 1.9, 1.7, 1.5, 1.7) Other Mobiles 3.6 (3.1, 2.7, 2.5, 2.6, 2.9, 2.8, 2.9, 3.3) Linux 0.9 (0.8, 0.8, 0.7, 0.9, 0.7, 0.9, 0.7, 1.0, 1.0, 1.1) This is the Christmas trend, not a long term trend. These figures should be taken with a grain of salt. iPhones and Androids percentages are way up. One important change. It has become apparent that most of the "Pre-XP" visits from the countries "China" and "Unknown" are mostly rubbish. These countries also give problems with repeated short visits from out-of-date operating systems. I have excluded another 162 vists as rubbish, and this has produced a marked downturn in the "Pre-XP Windows" result. For example, Windows 95 does not have USB so owning and maintaining such a computer is just weird. Windows 98 works OK but (for example) versions of Firefox past 2.0 do not work on Windows 98 and drivers for new printers and scanners are unobtainable. Sometimes computers running older versions of Windows claim to be running a version of Internet Explorer earlier than what came with the machine - it's hard to take them seriously. New rules to exclude rubbish visits are being developed, although approx 1200 short/rubbish visits are already being excluded every two weeks. Many Linux visits are also suspect. The total sample size above was 18363. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 16th to 31st December 2011:- IE 31.7 (39.8, 39.3, 40.4, 41.1, 41.0, 41.7, 42.4, 42.0, 41.2) Safari 28.0 (21.1, 22.5, 24.8, 20.6, 19.5 (19.8, 19.3, 18.5) FF 17.9 (18.1, 17.2, 16.7, 18.7, 18.6, 18.6, 19.0, 20.2, 20.4) Chrome 17.9 (16.9, 17.0, 14.8, 15.8, 17.1, 16.2, 15.3, 15.0) Opera 2.2 (2.3, 2.4, 1.9, 2.1, 2.1, 2.0, 2.4, 2.3, 2.4, 2.3) All Others 2.3 (1.8, 1.6, 1.5, 1.7, 1.7, 1.7, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2) A massive drop in IE and a corresponding jump in Safari. Best to wait a month and then look again. Chrome and Firefox are neck and neck. The sample size was 18443 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for December 16th to 31st, 2011:- Google 91.1 (90.4, 90.0, 90.0, 90.3, 90.5, 91.1, 89.7, 90.5, 90.6) Bing 3.1 (3.1, 3.9, 4.1, 3.5, 3.4, 2.8, 3.3, 3.6, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7) Yahoo 3.1 (2.9, 3.5, 3.5, 3.6, 3.4, 3.5, 4.5, 3.6, 3.7, 2.8, 3.2) All others 2.8 (3.7, 2.7, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7, 2.6, 2.4, 2.3, 2.2, 3.1) Given the Chrismas trend to mobiles, these figures probably indicate that people using smartphones prefer Google. The sample size above was 13221 visits. ================================ ===============================
