Latest Stats as at 30/11/2013 ============================= These figures cover the 15 day period 1/11/2013 to 15/11/2013. Visits from mobile phones are short, and there seems to be an emphasis on images. People who measure only "page-hits" will under estimate the mobile/tablet activity. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 1st to 15th of November, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 32.8 (33.4, 32.8, 30.1, 29.7, 29.9, 30.2, 30.7, 30.5) XP 8.3 (8.5, 8.9, 8.7, 8.3, 8.6, 8.9, 9.3, 9.4, 10.0, 10.0, 11.3) Windows-8 4.5 (5.0, 5.6, 5.0, 4.8, 4.3, 4.6, 4.2, 3.9, 4.0, 4.0) Vista 2.6 (2.8, 2.8, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.8, 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.7, 3.4) Pre-XP Windows 1.2 (1.2, 1.6, 0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 0.8, 0.6, 0.7, 0.7) Mac 10.5 (10.7, 10.2, 10.2, 10.5, 10.3, 10.5, 9.3, 9.5, 10.1) iPhone/iPad/iPod 27.0 (26.7, 25.6, 30.4, 31.0, 31.5, 30.3, 29.7) Android 10.4 (9.5, 9.9, 9.4, 9.1, 9.1, 9.0, 10.5, 9.1, 8.8, 8.3) WinPhone 0.3 (0.2, 0.3, 0.2, 0.3, 0.3, 0.2, 0.3, 0.2, 0.2, 0.2) Other Mobiles 1.4 (1.2, 1.7, 1.7, 1.7, 1.8, 1.6, 1.6, 1.5, 1.6) Linux 1.0 (0.7, 0.7, 0.9, 1.0, 0.9, 1.0, 0.6, 0.7, 0.6, 1.0) The figures show only a very slight drift since the last figures, but all changes are generally in the direction you would expect. You can read in the computer press about Microsoft's anguish - the uptake of Windows 8 is very slow (I wonder why, ha ha) and XP just won't lie down and die, after a decade of success. The computer press is full of rubbish about the decline of Apple. It's going to take a long time to decline from their share of the market, what with desktops, laptops, tablets and phones all from a single manufacturer. Meanwhile Windows phones are running at 0.3% and I have even seen a handful of hits from newly-released Linux mobile phones. Desktops/Laptops 61% and Mobiles/Tablets 39%. The total sample size above was 28779. Browser Breakup for Desktops/Laptops ==================================== Chrome 43.3 (43.1, 43.4, 40.2, 40.9) IE 28.0 (28.6, 29.5, 30.8, 29.6) Firefox 15.4 (15.9, 14.5, 15.6, 15.9) Safari 9.4 (9.1, 9.1, 9.6, 10.3) Opera 0.9 (0.8, 0.9, 1.4, 1.2) All Others 3.1 (2.5, 2.5, 2.4, 2.1) The sample size above was 17579 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for November 1st to 15th, 2013:- Google 86.3 (87.2, 89.1, 88.1, 89.6, 89.6, 89.1, 87.6) Bing 7.7 (7.3, 6.0, 6.5, 5.5, 5.5, 5.7, 6.5, 6.2, 6.5) Yahoo 4.1 (3.6, 3.1, 3.4, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.8, 4.4, 3.7) All others 1.9 (1.9, 1.8, 2.0, 1.7, 1.5, 1.7, 2.1, 2.1) These are the highest figures for Yahoo and Bing in a very long time, with Google forced from 89% down to 86% of the market. The total number of searches in this sample was 17044, including 11650 of 14702 searches (79%) via Google where the search string is encrypted, allegedly for privacy reasons. Compared with a year ago, analysis of search strings for keywords is a hopeless exercise. Instead, the concept of "landing pages" to measure which pages are receiving the most visits via search engines has emerged as a helpful concept. =============================== ============================
