A dreadful result for the Microsoft / Yahoo consortium. Just like fours months ago, their combined share is under 10%. Right now, there is a lot being written in the papers about Google and its competitors. Read carefully, since much of the market share figures are wrong. A lot of technical writers are writing corporate press releases for publication where they try to gloss over a poor result or talk up an unlikely event as having a high chance of happening. Actual facts are the starting point. You can spot the bad articles a mile off, since their "facts" conflict with other articles published the same week, and often in the same paper. Long term prediction: Yahoo is doomed, the deal with Microsoft is strongly to their disadvantage in the long term, although initially they make lots of money. This week the Irish IT consultant Gerry McGovern explained how he thought Yahoo and Microsoft's customers were their advertisers, whilst Google's customers were you and me. ============================ =============================
