Latest Stats as at 3/7/2013 ============================= These figures cover the 15 day period 16/6/2013 to 30/6/2013. This 15 day period includes 5 weekend days and 10 weekdays, giving a slight bias towards tablets and smartphones. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 16th to 30th of June, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 32.2 (32.9, 33.6, 33.7, 32.7, 30.7, 32.3) XP 10.0 (10.0, 11.3, 11.1, 11.5, 11.3, 10.5, 13.6) Vista 3.4 (3.7, 3.4, 3.7, 3.6, 3.7, 3.6, 4.3) Windows-8 4.0 (4.0, 3.7, 3.5, 3.2, 3.2, 2.9, 2.5) Pre-XP Windows 0.7 (0.7, 0.7, 0.7, 0.8, 0.6, 0.8) Mac 10.1 (10.2, 10.4, 10.2, 11.3, 12.3, 11.6) iPhone/iPad/iPod 28.4 (27.5, 25.9, 26.8, 26.8, 25.8) Android 8.8 (8.3, 8.2, 7.6, 7.6, 9.4, 7.4, 6.1) WinPhone 0.2 (0.2, 0.2, 0.3, 0.2, 0.2, 0.2, 0.2) Other Mobiles 1.6 (1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.4, 2.0, 1.6) Linux 0.6 (1.0, 1.0, 0.8, 0.9, 0.7, 0.9, 0.8, 0.8) Windows-8 is growing, but very slowly. It has gone from 0.1% to 4.0% in around six months. An overview of the above figures gives Desktops/Laptops 61% and Mobiles/Tablets 39%. This is an extraordinary result compared with 2008 when surfing the net with a phone was quite a chore (under 1%) and Androids were unheard of. In 2008 it was 69% XP compared with 10% now. Android, as shown above, is only about a third the visits made by Apple. The claimed sales would have you believe Androids devices are outselling Apple devices, both here and especially in the USA. Something is out of wack somewhere. This week I noticed that about 80 visits from Linux machines, from around the world, were all using Firefox 6. Most of these visits are now shown to be fakes and have been excluded. Hence the result shown for Linux has plunged from 1.0% to 0.6%. Clearly the earlier figures are wrong, and furthermore all users of Firefox 3.6 need to be checked. The total sample size above was 21432. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 16th to 30th June 2013:- Safari 34.1 (33.3, 31.9, 32.9, 34.0, 33.8) Chrome 32.9 (33.2, 33.3, 31.7, 31.1, 31.3) IE 17.3 (18.2, 20.1, 21.4, 20.8, 19.1, 19.6) Firefox 10.5 (10.5, 10.1, 9.7, 9.8, 10.4) Opera 2.1 (1.8, 1.9, 1.8, 1.6, 2.0, 1.7, 2.0) All Others 3.2 (3.0, 2.6, 2.6, 2.7, 3.4, 2.1) The steady decline of IE continues, simply illustrating the shift from desktop computers to mobile devices. Chrome has largely displaced Firefox from the desktop. The sample size was 21523 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for June 16th to 30th, 2013:- Google 87.8 (88.6, 88.1, 86.9, 86.1, 87.4, 87.9, 87.3) Bing 6.5 (5.7, 6.6, 7.2, 7.4, 6.8, 6.5, 6.3, 5.4, 5.1) Yahoo 3.7 (3.4, 3.1, 3.4, 3.6, 3.1, 3.3, 3.6, 3.8, 4.4) All others 1.9 (2.2, 2.2, 2.5, 2.9, 2.8, 2.3, 2.8, 2.9) The loyalty to Google continues. And no new search engines have been announced lately. Way back in 2008 I wrote "There are no 'Google killers' on the horizon." The referrer strings from Google show they are letting the concept of GoogleImages slide and are consolidating everything under plain Google. The total number of searches in this sample was 12162, including 5157 of 10679 searches (52%) via Google where the search string was suppressed allegedly for privacy reasons. This figure has increased steadily all year. =============================== ============================
