Latest Stats as at 1/7/2009. ============================ These figures cover the 15-day period 16/6/2009 to 30/6/2009. Some important things: (a) The site is now operating from London instead of Boston. There has been a drop of perhaps 15% or 20% in the number of hits per day. The teething period was hell but it seems ok now. (b) There were no usable log files for the 16th June to the 22nd June inclusive. The figures now presented cover the 8 days from 23rd to 30th June 2009. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for June 23rd to 30th, 2009:- Google 86.0 (was 84.8, 85.4, 83.6, 85.6, 87.3, 86.3, 86.8, 85.4, 85.8) Yahoo 6.5 (was 7.7, 7.8, 10.3, 7.8, 6.7, 6.3, 7.1, 8.0, 7.8, 8.0, 10.1) Microsoft 4.2 (was 3.3, 3.1, 2.4, 2.8, 2.4, 2.9, 2.3, 2.5, 2.3, 2.3, 2.6) All others 3.2 (was 4.2, 3.8, 3.8, 3.8, 3.6, 4.5, 3.8, 4.1, 4.2) Around June 2nd, Microsoft re-badged all their search engines into one new engine named "Bing" and embarked on a massive advertising campaign. Clearly the Microsoft share is up, but really at the expense of Yahoo and the other smaller search engines. The figure for Microsoft is the highest this year, and the All Others result is the lowest. The sudden decline seen for the smaller search engines may not help the long-term health and diversity of the search industry. The sample size referred by search engines was 3773 (days). The Bing Blip. ============== Bing had a lot of publicity for a few days, but things soon reverted to normal. Most people I talk to have never heard of Bing. Here are some comparative percentages, with the results grouped into periods of three days:- May 23-24-25: Bing 2.7 May 26-27-28: Bing 4.1 May 29-30-31: Bing 2.7 June 1-2-3: Bing 3.6 June 4-5-6: Bing 3.2 June 7-8-9: Bing 3.4 June 10-11-12: Bing 3.0 June 13-14-15: Bing 3.3 June 16-22: No figures available June 23-26: Bing 4.1 June 27-30: Bing 4.5 The total number of searches over three or four days is a bit small for reliable analysis. The accuracy of each measurement above is roughly plus or minus 0.4. The Bing result is up, although hardly relevant when compared with Google's market share. However, when measured at the Microsoft servers, traffic is up at least 30% and this will allow them to charge more for an advertisement on Bing. ============================== ==============================
