Latest Stats as at 19/2/2013 ============================= These figures cover the 14-day period 1/2/2013 to 14/2/2013. It has been rather a flat period for Operating System statistics, especially for mobile devices. A lot rests on the success or otherwise of Microsoft's WinPhone and whether the public really likes or simply just tolerates Windows 8. Apple is getting a bad press for no reason. They are making iPads and iPhones in record numbers but all the journos do is speculate about what gadget might be next, like the iWatch. Operating System Market Share ============================== For the period 1st to 14th of February, these percentage figures are based on visits, with earlier figures in brackets:- Windows-7 35.1 (34.1, 32.0, 32.1, 35.3, 36.3, 36.2, 35.8) XP 18.5 (16.9, 14.2, 14.2, 17.2, 16.0, 16.5, 17.2, 18.8) Vista 4.5 (4.4, 4.7, 4.5, 5.3, 5.3, 5.2, 5.1, 5.2) Windows-8 2.2 (1.9, 1.7, 1.3, 0.8, 0.9, 0.3, 0.1) Pre-XP Windows 0.8 (1.1, 1.2, 1.0, 1.0, 0.7, 0.6) Mac 12.3 (13.2, 11.8, 11.9, 12.4, 13.0, 12.5, 12.8) iPhone/iPad/iPod 19.0 (19.8, 25.2, 24.7, 19.8, 20.5) Android 5.5 (5.5, 5.8, 6.6, 4.8, 4.5, 4.6, 4.6, 4.2) WinPhone 0.4 (0.2, 0.3. 0.3, 0.2) Other Mobiles 2.1 (2.3, 2.3, 2.4, 2.3, 1.8, 2.4, 2.0) Linux 0.6 (0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 0.9, 0.8, 0.8, 0.7, 0.7) A slow but steady increase for Windows-8 over the last four months. Perhaps this is just the sales of new computers since there does not seem to be a rush to upgrade from Windows 7. Windows XP usage has increased over the last two months. Clearly it was affected by the Christmas break. But way back in late 2008 its peak was over 69%. The total sample size above was 19222. Browser Breakup =============== Percentages of visits for the period 1st to 14th February 2013:- Chrome 30.2 (28.6, 26.4, 27.2, 28.5, 27.5, 27.2, 26.4) Safari 27.1 (29.2, 33.6, 33.3, 28.6, 29.9, 30.2, 30.4) IE 26.6 (25.9, 23.8, 21.4, 25.2, 26.2, 26.8, 27.2, 27.9) Firefox 11.9 (11.6, 12.3, 13.6, 14.1, 12.8, 12.2, 12.8) Opera 2.4 (2.4, 2.0, 2.5, 2.1, 2.1, 2.1, 1.8, 2.3, 2.5) All Others 1.8 (2.4, 1.9, 2.1, 1.6, 1.5, 1.5, 1.4, 1.5) Chrome has now passed Safari. It's stating the obvious, but these browser results very much reflect the type of visitors to a site, and especially their use of tablet computers. On another project, the same log file analysis puts IE way out in front simply because the visitors are mainly accessing the internet from their office desk. The sample size was 19310 visits by humans. Search Engines Share ==================== Percentage breakup of visits coming via search engines for February 1st to 14th, 2013:- Google 87.0 (86.7, 86.4, 84.3, 89.9, 89.2, 89.4, 89.5, 90.9) Yahoo 4.4 (4.0, 4.8, 5.4, 4.0, 4.2, 3.9, 4.1, 3.4, 4.2, 4.0) Bing 5.1 (5.6, 5.3, 5.5, 2.7, 3.3, 3.5, 3.3, 2.8, 2.5, 2.9) All others 3.5 (3.7, 3.5, 4.7, 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.1, 2.9, 3.0) Happily, The Bondi Beach Home Page is back at number 1 in Google when you search for "Bondi Beach". The Google percentage above is improving very slowly. Breaking their monopoly is much harder than it looks. The best strategy for venture capitalists is to build a new search engine, claim it's a "Google-killer" and then sell it to Microsoft. The total number of searches in this sample was 11624, including 3873 of 10109 searches (38%, jumping up from 23% last October) via Google where the search string was suppressed allegedly for privacy reasons. If you see https: and a padlock when connected to Google, your typed search string does not appear in the logs of sites that you choose to visit. Google is slowly strangling the Search Engine Optimisation industry. =============================== ============================
